Lantana Nature Preserve

Located at the site of a former landfill, Lantana Nature Preserve is an outstanding example of what a city can do to improve the environment. Bird watching is one of the popular activities at the park.

Recently a rare bird was spotted there and brought in bird watchers from all over the country hoping to catch sight of the red-legged thrush.  This bird had only been sighted once before in North America.  Another bird watcher saw a Bahama mockingbird recently, which is also a rare sighting in North America.

Many members of the bird watching communities in the United States state that the Lantana Nature Preserve is a magnet for rare birds, and well worth a trip.
